Burmese Medical Association of North America

Our Mission is to provide humanitarian assistance, mainly through promoting and maintaining the health and wellbeing of "all" peoples of Burma (Myanmar), especially the underprivileged, irrespective of their religion, ethnicity, political affiliation; and to enhance the medical knowledge of doctors who are in practice or training inside the country, as well as, doctors in transition who are outside the country, while maintaining the unique cultures and traditions of "all" peoples of Burma (Myanmar).

  Report on the 50th Myanmar Medical Conference

The 50th MMA conference in Rangoon was attended by Drs Parkash Talwar, Donald Chan, Hla Aung and Than Naing Oo. Several lectures and workshops were conducted by the BMA-NA representatives. Dr. Talwar gave a presentation on chest complications of illicit drug use, Dr. Donald Chan on spinal stenosis, Dr. Hla Aung on seizure disorders in general practice and Dr.Than Naing Oo on diabetes and hypertension with emphasis on the JNC VII guidelines. There was good participation from the audience and it was suggested that the half day session allocated to BMA-NA be extended to a full day in future years.

Dr. Talwar also traveled to Bassein where he gave a lecture on chest infections in AIDS.

On behalf of the BMA-NA, medications and surgical instruments were donated to the Women & Children’s Hospital in Taungyi. Donations were also given to the Radiology Department at RGH (catheters, biopsy needles and other angiographic equipment ) and to the Department of Anesthesia ( endo-tracheal intubation kits of various sizes ).
